1961: Dropping to do

Philip Marriage writes:  This cartoon was prepared to make a point. Apprentice compositors were expected to do the tedious tasks, to enable the Journeymen to concentrate on more exacting work — or so they said. All however were held ransom by the Night Shift whose task was to set, page, impose and print Hansard  overnight every night the House was sitting. It was a demanding schedule and occasionally tasks like ‘dropping’ (unimposing pages of Hansard ) were simply left for the Day Shift to complete — and by default to the apprentices.
