c1988: HMSO Bookshop Managers' Training Course

Dan Lavery (known to many as Bookshop Manager, Belfast but at the time of writing — 2009 — TSO Publications Manager for Scotland and Northern Ireland) owes it all to the training he received at Buxton, Derbyshire in the late 1980s. I'm sure he taught the lecturers a thing or two. As would have those other Publications stalwarts featuring in the photos: Eddie Begley (Holborn); 'The' Mr Derek Croft (as Dan says, 'style on a stick from Holborn'); Brian Thompson (Manchester); Dan (Belfast: 'the youngest and loudest' No surprise there then).

Dan continues:  'Sadly I am struggling for the other names. The clever looking one is from Birmingham, then Bristol, and got involved with Wallace and Gromit animation, and there was a True Gentleman from Cardiff. The other young one, from Bristol, and the hippy with the long hair — Assistant at Manchester.'

Subsequently we have identified Keith Denny — with the beard — and Tony James — with the spectacles.
