Hi, Eight pensioners met at the Racecourse Restaurant, Norwich for the more or less annual lunch. A very acceptable carvery.

Much animated conversation over settling the Heart of Midlothian question. Prompted by my “holiday” in Glasgow over Christmas: miserable weather far too warm.

We had the usual comical routine over settling the bill. Some favoured splitting into eight equal shares, some who had forgone a dessert or a drink favoured paying what they had consumed.

We all accepted that a gratuity was appropriate but some wanted to settle with cash and others by card. Maurice had made the mistake of collecting the bill and was lumbered with the responsibility of resolving all the challenges. He succeeded.

An enjoyable time was had by all!

Brian

Hello Brian, What a fine upstanding group of HMSO Paper Procurers! I spy Geoff Mickleburgh, Ms Blake, Messrs Sinden, Cockram, Durkin, Dougall, Crabtree and Curtis – Alan Crabtree being the non-paper (unless you count duplicating stencils) interloper. Good to hear that all went well, and I am sure that the Heart of Midlothian is back to a steady beat.

Happy (?) memories of restaurant bill-settling following HMSO celebratory lunches.  Some of us based annual E5 markings on the attitudes of those attending such events. Probably the longest-lasting ex-HMSO post-Christmas lunch event.

Best wishes, Reg.
