Following a long illness John died, in Norwich, on 18 June 2019. Funeral details can be seen here.

John worked in Computer Services Division in HMSO Norwich before transferring to CCTA, where he was appointed Deputy Director, and maintained close contact with HMSO staff. His interests included philately, through which he kept contact with many friends in the area.

Helen George adds: John was my first HEO in CCA (a forerunner of CCTA) in Norwich working in a wonderful Georgian building in Tombland. We worked to Jim Curtis, our SEO and Harvey Wild was our DD. Roy Pysden was Director of CCA at the time – that was in 1972! John had worked in Customs & Excise prior to joining Computer Services Division in HMSO at Norvic House.

John was a great rugby fan and he and John Winup went to International matches together. He was also very actively involved in his local community in Acle. John and Val travelled widely visiting friends and family all over the world.

On retirement in 2002 (photo above of John and wife Val at his retirement at Rosebery Court) John undertook to walk the length of Peddars Way and kept in touch with many of his old colleagues.

Regards, Helen
