8 December 2020 – From Philip Marriage

Hi Reg, I went for a walk with some local friends yesterday over Mousehold Heath and as we gathered at the car park on St James’ Hill I spotted Marion Maxwell, my erstwhile Pubns colleague from our Electronic Publishing days, with a group of others so strolled over to have a brief chat. Apparently she’s involved with a Mousehold Heath committee and they were discussing with a young couple their proposal to open a coffee stall next to the car-park.

Seems like a good idea to me and I told Marion so and she seemed pleased to have some local reaction.

We carried on our way and below are a few piccies from our walk. Philip

Excellent photos, as ever, Philip. Brought back good memories of my years (1968–76) living in Burleigh Tower, Heartsease, and walks through the heath – often after bar duty at The Bystanders, avoiding the doggers in the car park! Reg.

Alan Pawsey adds: Marion is the current Chair of Mousehold Heath Conservators which oversees the management and protection of Mousehold Heath. It is made up of city councillors, representatives of professional bodies and members of the public which meets four times a year. I believe a former Chair was Chris Southgate. Further information about the Heath can be found here. The Heath won a National Green Flag Award this year.
