James Johnstone

1930–2026

The sad news that Jim Johnstone has died was passed on by Roy Plackett.

Jim was born on 22 May 1930 and joined HMSO as Printing Officer on 3 May 1971. He moved through various posts, retiring as HP&GO.

Jim Marshall adds: Once again some sad news but I suppose we are all getting to that age. When I joined HMSO, in 1976 I started in CEPA on Ken Megson’s section where Jimmy was awaiting a posting having passed his panel. Jimmy made me very welcome and helped me settle in, despite being a Partick Thistle fan. Jimmy loved his football: he would regularly go to Carrow Road and when he moved to Gateshead he went to St James’ Park Newcastle where I would join him on my spells of detached duty at The Press. He also enjoyed his snooker which he continued to play when he moved to Manchester from where he retired.

Rest in peace Jimmy.
