Alan Charles Walker 1939–2022

The sad news was received from Sylvia Walker on 9 August 2022:

‘Just to let you know that Alan Walker passed away on 8 August 2022, aged 83. He had suffered with dementia and declined quickly. A happy release in the end. A coincidence: he occupied the bed next to Ron Farebrother, who seemed well, apart from dementia. Unfortunately, neither of them was able to recognise the other.’

Funeral details can be seen here.

Alan was born on 17 July 1939, joining HMSO Print in 1964.  He moved to Norwich with dispersal and was promoted HPGO in 1976. A keen cyclist, he was a popular and helpful colleague.

David Berwick adds: I was saddened to read in a recent edition of ‘Oldies’ that Alan had passed away on the 8th August this year. He was my boss way back in the early 1990s in PP and you couldn’t have wished to work for a nicer person. He was always calm, reassuring and encouraging. I particularly remember his sense of humour and a rather explosive laugh when something really amusing occurred. I greatly admired his devotion to personal fitness, which often involved him cycling to and from the office followed by regular running feats with other HMSO colleagues at lunchtime too. I’d like to pass on my sincere condolences to Sylvia and their family at this time of loss. I will always remember Alan with great warmth and appreciation.
