The sad news that Auriol has died, in January 2022 came via Sue Prutton, and was published in the Newsletter for Thorpe St. Andrew Parish Church.

Auriol joined HMSO Norwich in 1973 as Administrative Officer in Personnel Services.  She was soon to oversee the new Flextime scheme and was always helpful, cheerful and efficient. Qualities which she extended to the work with the Church at Thorpe, as detailed by the Rector, The Reverend James Stewart, in the Parish Newsletter:

FUNERAL SERVICE (REQUIEM MASS) for AURIOL HUGHES: Auriol’s funeral will be, following her wishes, a Requiem Mass (Funeral Eucharist) at 1.30pm on Tuesday 15 February 2022 at the Parish Church of Thorpe St Andrew (Episcopi). All are welcome. This will be followed by committal with her late mother at the Thorpe St Andrew Churchyard (Extension), Yarmouth Road.  Auriol will be received into the church on the eve of her funeral mass at 4.30pm on Monday 14 February 2022 and there will be a short service at that time to which all are also welcome. Family flowers only. Donations can be made in memory of Auriol in aid of the Parish of Thorpe St Andrew, with cheques payable to ‘Thorpe St Andrew PCC’ and can be given at the service or sent to the Funeral Directors: Gordon Barber, 2 St William’s Way, Thorpe St Andrew, NR7 0AW.

Auriol’s family are hugely appreciative of all the support and love shown to Auriol and themselves. Please keep them all in your prayers at this time. Please pass this information on to anyone you feel needs to know.

With every blessing

James

Philip Marriage adds: Sad news indeed as Auriol regularly appeared at my front door each November collecting for Remembrance Day. With the nights drawing in, often in dreadful weather, I’d invite her in for a warming cuppa and we’d chat about her younger years. I’ll miss a lovely unassuming lady with a full memory of times past.
