Michael Aidan sent the following note on 19 September 2022:
‘Just got this email from Katie Latham about her Dad, John Block. It was John who got me involved in CPSA when we worked at Sovereign House, which sent me on a lifelong path of Union activism. I know he had a similar impact on many others, so wanted to let you all know a.s.a.p.’
Message reads: ‘My Dad passed away this morning (19 September 2022) after being moved into a 24 hour care unit. He had become unable to look after himself due to advanced dementia.’
John’s funeral will take place on Friday 21 October 2022 at 1 pm, at Alford Crematorium, Miles Cross Hill, Alford, Lincolnshire. Please let HMSOldies know if you wish to attend so that we can inform the family, via Michael.
John was born on 2 November 1934 and joined HMSO as Clerical Officer in October 1966. He worked in Supplies and in Finance, becoming active on the committee of the CSCA/CPSA. He transferred to another Government Department in the early 1970s.
