Howard Wheeldon has informed us of the sad news that Mike’s wife Erica telephoned him on 6 August 2023 to let him know that her husband had died peacefully in Norfolk and Norwich Hospital from Alzheimer’s disease with complications.
Mike was born on 3 February 1940, joining HMSO in Atlantic House on 1 June 1965. He moved to Norwich upon dispersal, where he took various administrative roles until retirement three years after privatisation.

HMSOldies has received messages of condolence and good memories from several friends, including John Nash, who wrote as follows:
I was very sad to learn about Michael. Our paths crossed frequently and if my now failing memory is correct he was the supremo for Training Branch just prior to my retirement. I always found him to be a most helpful and caring ‘guvnor with a compassion not always found in senior staff. One over-riding memory is that he possessed one of the largest Filofax diaries then available in which he meticulously recorded discussions and action points. It was a real pleasure to work with him.
