The sad news that Bob has died, on 25 July 2021 as the result of a heart attack, came to us via Bob Nelson.

Bob Simpson joined HMSO Edinburgh Print Division in November 1972, and continued to work in the office until retirement.

James Cruickshanks adds: Reading the stories and names of those that had sadly passed, I always knew the name but couldn’t say I really worked with them. However, the news that Bob Simpson had gone is one that I can genuinely say “I worked with him”. Bob was part of the print buying team when I joined HMSO in Edinburgh and right from the off a mentor and a character. As soon as I read the news my thoughts immediately went to one of my first team union meetings with the boss at that time Bryan Hayes. There was discussion around flexi time and 5 weeks annual leave, and the amount of work that needed to be done. With that chirpy Geordie accent Bob, without missing a beat, “. . . aye, and you’ve got to add in our 14 days sick leave per year. . . .” Probably funnier at the time but brought a wee laugh to myself with the memories of Bob, his personality and the many rounds of golf we played.
